Two food recalls have been issued by the FDA involving organic blueberries and semi-sweet chocolate. Alma Pak International LLC recalled 400 boxes of organic blueberries after tests found possible Listeria contamination. Though the product was distributed to North Carolina, the company confirmed that all affected items were recovered before reaching stores.
Listeria poses a serious risk to certain groups, including pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Infections can cause fever, muscle aches, or even severe complications like meningitis. Alma Pak has since introduced stricter safety protocols, including increased monitoring and product testing, and stated that all follow-up samples tested negative.
In a separate case, Mellace Family Brands recalled Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils due to an undeclared milk allergen. The recall affects multiple lot numbers sold in nine states. Though no illnesses have been reported, the company urges customers with milk allergies to return the product for a refund.
Both companies acted quickly to address the issues. Consumers are encouraged to check product labels and contact customer service if they believe they’ve purchased any affected items. These recalls highlight the importance of food safety monitoring and timely public communication.
