Bruce Campbell has always had a creative eye for the unconventional. In his twenties, he purchased 10 acres of forested land in Oregon for $23,000, envisioning a one-of-a-kind home project.

He first considered using cargo containers but changed direction after learning about someone who converted a Boeing 727 into a residence. Inspired, Campbell followed suit—with his own approach. In 1999, he bought a retired Boeing 727 from Olympic Airways for $100,000. Moving the plane from Greece to Oregon cost another $120,000, bringing the total to $220,000.

Once the plane arrived, Campbell began converting it into a livable space. He kept many of the aircraft’s original features, including the cockpit, and added essentials like a small kitchen, sleeping area, and shower. The result is a functional and surprisingly cozy home filled with natural light.

Beyond its unique design, the airplane home is also environmentally conscious. By repurposing the aircraft, Campbell minimized waste and showcased how durable materials can be used in creative, sustainable housing. His project continues to inspire those seeking alternative ways to live and build responsibly.
