Turning to Adrian, she added softly, “I’m Isabel. I’m so sorry—we ran late, and Lily… likes to take initiative.”
Over dinner, Adrian learned that Isabel was raising Lily on her own. “I should have told you I have a daughter,” she said hesitantly. “I understand if this isn’t what you expected.” But Adrian shook his head. “Anyone who sees your child as a problem,” he said gently, “doesn’t understand what love really is.” The rest of the evening unfolded naturally—filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of warmth Adrian hadn’t felt in years.
