Tensions between the US and Iran have sharply escalated after Iran launched missile attacks on US air bases in Qatar and Iraq. This move followed American airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities — Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo — ordered by President Donald Trump on June 21. The situation has reached the highest level of hostility between the two nations in decades.
Iranian state television described the missile strike on Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base as a “successful response” to US aggression. However, Qatar’s air defenses intercepted the missiles without causing any casualties, according to government officials. The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, calling it a violation of their sovereignty and a threat to regional stability.
In a statement on social media, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that Iran was not seeking war but would defend its territory. Meanwhile, the Trump administration confirmed it is closely monitoring threats to US forces in the region. Al Udeid Air Base — the largest US installation in the Middle East — houses around 10,000 troops and had recently been visited by Trump.
This latest exchange comes amid long-standing tensions between the two countries, which have clashed over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional influence since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The conflict intensified after recent Israeli strikes on Iran, which prompted US military involvement. The international community is now urging all parties to de-escalate to prevent further instability in the region.
